Permanently Disabled Veterans Exemption

Permanently disabled servicewomen and men who live in and own their property in Jefferson County and who have been declared totally disabled by the VA are eligible. And, those veterans need only apply once.

According to Kentucky’s Constitution, property owners who have been declared totally disabled for the previous twelve (12) months by The Department of Veterans Affairs are eligible for the disability exemption.

The amount of the exemption is subtracted from the property’s assessed value – so the property owner will pay less property tax. For 2011-2012, the exemption amount is $34,000.

It is easy to apply! Simply click this link, complete the application and send it in with:

  • a copy of a Jefferson County driver’s license or a Jefferson County voter registration card

and

  • documentation from the VA stating the permanent disability
