Military skills transfer to job opportunities at LG&E and KU
Utilities hiring active and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 18, 2014) – Louisville Gas and Electric Co. and Kentucky Utilities Co. are launching an aggressive hiring campaign to fill various open positions across its Kentucky facilities. As part of that campaign, the company is seeking active and former members of the U.S. military to join more than 300 fellow service members currently employed by the utilities.
From 2012 to 2013, the company more than doubled its hiring rate among reservists and veterans, and set a goal to surpass these results through this year’s hiring campaign and collaboration with military-affiliated employment organizations.
“We’re currently in the largest construction phase of the company’s history, investing more than $6 billion in capital improvements, and this is all taking place while we continue providing safe, reliable energy to our customers around the clock,” said Paula Pottinger, senior vice president of Human Resources for LG&E and KU. “With so much activity taking place across the company, there are many new opportunities and open positions from entry-level to management roles.”
“These men and women selflessly served our country, and we want them to know that we offer opportunities that encourage transferring the skills they gained in the military to jobs we have available,” said Dave Tummonds, general manager, Cane Run and Combustion Turbine, who served in the U.S. Army before joining LG&E and KU. “Understanding teamwork is essential to success, and veterans understand how to be part of a team.”
Example positions include field technicians; trade and craft positions; engineers; administrative; customer services; and industrial electricians. The company offers competitive benefits packages that include tuition assistance, professional development opportunities and a veterans’ resource group.
