JCPS board approves tax rate

The Jefferson County Board of Education has approved the 2017 tax rate that county property owners pay for schools, making a slight decrease in the tax rate that will nevertheless bring in more tax dollars to the state’s largest school district.

The board unanimously approved a recommendation by Jefferson County Public Schools Superintendent Donna Hargens to lower the property tax rate from 71 cents per $100 of assessed property value to 70.8 cents.
