Would eventually be $10.10 by July 2017
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 8, 2014) — Five Democrats on the Louisville Metro Council — Attica Scott, Barbara Shanklin, Cheri Bryant Hamilton, David James and Tom Owen — filed a proposed ordinance on Monday to raise the city’s minimum wage to $8.10 on July 1, 2015, $9.15 on July 1, 2016 and $10.10 on July 1, 2017.
In late August the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, in a letter to Councilwoman Scott, indicated the Metro Council as a local government did have the authority to raise the minimum wage and there is no conflict with state law.
After it is filed, the ordinance will get its first reading by the Metro Council on Thursday, Sept. 11.
