Metro parks snow update – January 20, 2016 – closures, sledding hills and more!

January 20, 2016

Metro Parks and Recreation is reminding the public that with the closure of Jefferson County Public Schools and the Catholic elementary and secondary schools, its 12 community centers will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today.

Most Metro Parks and Recreation Centers are also equipped with WiFi, and many have amenities such as computer labs, gymnasiums and game rooms so kids out of school can keep their minds and bodies active.

The Dare To Care Food Bank’s Kids Cafe Program, which is offered at ten Metro Parks community centers and the Shawnee Arts and Cultural Center and offers hot, nutritious meals is also anticipated to be available today, as is the senior nutrition program that is offered at four Metro Parks community centers.

However, parents and center users are encouraged to call ahead to their selected center ahead of time to ensure availability.

“If parents want their kids to get a hot meal, have a safe place to do their homework, or maybe play a game of basketball with their friends, our community centers are open for business despite the weather,” said Assistant Director of Recreation Ben Johnson.

In addition the Flaget Senior Center in West Louisville is closed today, as it is whenever JCPS closes due to weather conditions.

Also closed is Waverly Park due to unsafe driving conditions.
